In the year 1990, 26th June, few local Tour Operators of Sikkim initiated the
formation of Travel Agents Association of Sikkim. Meeting was more or less of knowing
each other, brainstorming and discussion on various issues pertaining to tourism
in Sikkim. Various other issues were also taken up such as fragile ecosystem of
the area, restrictions, carrying capacity and co-operation amongst the tour operators.
This move prompted the formation of Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim.

Objective of Travel Agents Association of Sikkim
|

|
|
The association was formed with the aim to Promote Tourism; encourage domestic &
international promoters and tourists.
To act as liaison with government for promotion and support in policymaking, help
in creation of infrastructure, maintain standard of trade.

● TAAS holds orientation trainings for its members, guides, college students of
Tourism.
● Management Course, porters, local people on Eco tourism, First Aid, Marketing
Strategies.
● Rescue Operation, Conservation and Preservations.
● Tree plantation in fragile areas.
● Extension of free services to the tourists who face unseen happenings.
● Familiarization tours for Tour Operators and Travel Trade Writers.
● Present memorandums to Government Agencies and visiting union ministers and standing
committee of parliament for the promotion of tourism and infrastructure development
in the areas.
● Attend in travel trade marts, conferences and other related tourism meets.
